MUTUALLY ASSURED DEMOCRACY

I Greet You with a Battle Hero’s Welcome by Alyssa Roberts

While the nation is riding the high brought on by Taylor Swift’s announcement of her upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl,” the situations of the last few weeks have me singing a different Taylor Swift song. Or, a medley, if you will.

You did all that you could do

The game was rigged, the ref got tricked

The wrong ones think they’re right

A few weeks ago, the President of the United States called the Governor of Texas and requested that he find 5 additional seats so that the GOP can keep their margin in the house. This isn’t a new play from an updated playbook. It’s the same old tired calls we have been hearing for the last decade. I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending. “Find me 11,000 more votes.” “Find me 5 more seats.” “Find me a bunch of concrete for the rose garden.” (Oops, I digress). The smallest man who ever lived yelling at a cloud wouldn’t be as problematic if a bunch of people didn’t immediately jump up to bow to his desires.

They aren’t gonna help us

Too busy helping themselves

They aren’t gonna change this

We gotta do it ourselves

They think that it’s over

But it’s just begun

Among those Governors who seem willing to do whatever this president asks, Indiana’s own Mike Braun has been meeting with the administration, and Punchball News has reported that on August 26th, some of our own Indiana lawmakers will head to the White House at Trump’s invitation. But if someone comes at us, this time, l’m ready. It’s time for Hoosiers to ACT.

Don’t say you’re too tired to fight

It’s just a matter of time

Up there’s the finish line

So run, and run, and run

Sometimes to run is the brave thing.

Run, friends. Run. Run to your phones, run to your elected officials. Run to your newspapers and run to your friends and family. The power of our voices can impact this. We can change this. Don’t let Indiana play stupid games and win stupid prizes. We can tell the country we won’t stand for rigged elections. But we have to be the ones to save us. We didn’t start this, but we can tell you how it ends

The Hoosier state stands for something. And we won’t stand for this. Join the fight, give your blood, sweat and tears for this. They might be bigger, but we’re faster and never scared.
