I would vote to rescind the OBBBA. It's a self-serving law to help the rich, and not 90% of the people. We do not allow people to die. I would vote to restore the cuts. I also support healthcare for all as more than 70 nations provide such care to their citizens. We are the wealthiest nation on Earth, and people need to come first. It would be revolutionary as an employee could move to a new job in another business and his/her healthcare will come with them. It will also allow small businesses to use their earnings to expand or give employees a raise.
Economics: AI and data centers are having a huge impact on jobs and communities across the nation, particularly in Indiana. What is Congress’s role in addressing this developing technology? What action will you take to hear and represent the concerns of Hoosiers on this topic?
Economics: Dozens of AI data centers are planning to come to Indiana, drawn by the state’s “business-friendly” reputation. How should Indiana manage these large industrial site proposals and their potential impact on communities? (Source: Citizens Action Coalition)
AI data centers need to be federal regulated so there is uniformity across the nation. They have moved into Indiana and the corporations have lacked transparency, leaving Hoosiers with many questions. Knowledge is power and people need answers. For example, what deals are being made with local government? What deals is the state making? Who is paying for the cost of utilities? Is there an environmental report? Who will remove and pay for the cost of batteries? Who will restore the land? How will centers contribute to the community, such as supporting schools? While the centers provide jobs for unions in building the structures, the public needs answers to the above questions and more.
Education: Describe your stance on the Department of Education and its role in education administration, funding, and protections for students with disabilities.
Education: Since 2012, Indiana has spent over $5.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on charter schools and the private school voucher program. If elected, would you support or oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to funding private schools and charter schools? Why or why not? (Source: ICPE)
While the Department of Education has played a major role in the past with assisting students with disabilities, I think most states could do a better job in overseeing children's needs. That would mean state would be charged with doling out funds. However, I am reluctant to the change unless the law specifically includes penalties for states which do not comply. I fear that Indiana, who already undermines the public school system, might ignore the law. We need a policy for the department to do more for children, not less.
Democracy: In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge or threat facing our democracy right now? If elected, what will you do to help overcome this challenge or threat?
The president and his cabinet's failure to adhere to the rule of law clearly diminishes our democracy. Same can be said of the Republican House's failure to stand up for what is right. Too many have ignored their duties to enable the president. All took an oath to the Constitution, and yet violations continue. The Constitution is the backbone of democracy and when leaders ignore it, there needs to be consequences. Right now, the DOJ, once an independent agency, is controlled by Trump. The courts have stepped up and have stopped some of the administration's actions, but we need to restore the DOJ so parties who failed to comply with the Constitution are rightfully prosecuted. We need guardrails and tougher laws to ensure what is occurring now, cannot occur again. Democracy exists if we respect it, not ignore or trample all over it. I believe most Americans' want to keep their rights and will vote according in the midterms.
Community: Describe your stance on ICE and its role in immigration enforcement and detention.
Community: What role or responsibility do local and state governments have with regards to immigration enforcement?
ICE needs to be defunded. Their purpose is no longer needed. This administration has a plan to make America white again, and that is not who were are. Undocumented immigrants contribute over $580 Billion and are part of our communities. We need to find a pathway to citizenship with some conditions. This issue is a result of Congress's failure to enact a law for decades. Ousting people who contribute and whose children are Americans, and splitting them up is not a humane solution. Our strength is our diversity. We welcome immigrants. The Statue of Liberty doesn't say "go home," we don't want you. It says: "Give me you tired, your poor, your yearning to be free." Being here illegally isn't a crime, it's an infraction in most cases. Putting immigrants in detention centers without warrants or a hearings is illegal and not who were are. Even criminal who get locked up in this country has their day in court. We are all immigrants except for those brought here against their will and indigenous people. What the Trump Administration is doing will be a stain in history for years to come as it's both racist and cruel. Finally the men who shot and killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti need to be arrested and prosecuted. The administration's failure to do so makes them complicit in failing to provide justice to the victims.
