Throughout my career as a public servant, I have been working to improve access to quality, affordable healthcare for communities throughout our region. This includes helping seniors afford prescription drugs, providing veterans with critical mental health services, and supporting women seeking reproductive care. I will continue to fight to lower the price of healthcare and to make prescription drug prices more affordable, so families can obtain the lifesaving medicine they need.
Economics: AI and data centers are having a huge impact on jobs and communities across the nation, particularly in Indiana. What is Congress’s role in addressing this developing technology? What action will you take to hear and represent the concerns of Hoosiers on this topic?
Economics: Dozens of AI data centers are planning to come to Indiana, drawn by the state’s “business-friendly” reputation. How should Indiana manage these large industrial site proposals and their potential impact on communities? (Source: Citizens Action Coalition)
I am advocating for safe and responsible AI policies that protect American workers and labor rights, uphold guaranteed constitutional rights, and strengthen protections for data privacy and intellectual property. I also believe that communities surrounding any increase in data centers should not bear the costs of this growth. As a federal legislator, I will continue to have an open door to listen to the concerns of all constituents and support initiatives to lower energy costs in Northwest Indiana.
Education: Describe your stance on the Department of Education and its role in education administration, funding, and protections for students with disabilities.
Education: Since 2012, Indiana has spent over $5.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on charter schools and the private school voucher program. If elected, would you support or oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to funding private schools and charter schools? Why or why not? (Source: ICPE)
I believe that the Department of Education is fundamental to the success of educators and students, including students with disabilities. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to ensure that the Department has the direction, funding, and personnel to ensure all of our students and future leaders can succeed.
Democracy: In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge or threat facing our democracy right now? If elected, what will you do to help overcome this challenge or threat?
I believe that the right to vote is one of the greatest privileges for citizens to exercise in our democracy, and I am strongly opposed to initiatives to undermine our elections through restrictive voting legislation and executive orders, unconstitutional proposals to nationalize elections, requests for sensitive voter information, and abuses of federal law enforcement to raid election offices. As your Member of Congress, I will continue fighting to uphold free and fair elections and ensure that all American citizens can equally participate in our democracy.
Community: Describe your stance on ICE and its role in immigration enforcement and detention.
Community: What role or responsibility do local and state governments have with regards to immigration enforcement?
In general, I am focused on advancing strong, secure, and humane policy solutions that secure the border, improve our immigration system, and uphold the Constitution. I am deeply concerned by the Administration’s dangerous immigration enforcement actions and policies, which create unnecessary fear and chaos in our communities, undermine public safety, and violate due process rights in the immigration process. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to rein in harmful Department of Homeland Security tactics, conduct vigorous Congressional oversight of the agency, and promote commonsense immigration reform policies.
