I would reallocate existing economic development budgets, such as funds from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, directly into eliminating waitlists for Medicaid and expanding healthcare subsidies. I would support laws that cap the prices nonprofit hospital systems can charge employers, linking hospital reimbursement rates to a percentage of Medicare to lower overall system costs.
Economics: AI and data centers are having a huge impact on jobs and communities across the nation, particularly in Indiana. What is Congress’s role in addressing this developing technology? What action will you take to hear and represent the concerns of Hoosiers on this topic?
Economics: Dozens of AI data centers are planning to come to Indiana, drawn by the state’s “business-friendly” reputation. How should Indiana manage these large industrial site proposals and their potential impact on communities? (Source: Citizens Action Coalition)
Indiana should slow down these plans with a moratorium so that a full scale study can be implemented to truly understand the total impact of these massive data centers with regards to pollution to our land, air, particularly water, wild life, and effects on mental health and the mental health of those with disabilities like autism, etc. We should adopt ordinances like Hamilton County and/or implement a total ban on these massive data centers for environmental and overall health/mental health protections
Education: Describe your stance on the Department of Education and its role in education administration, funding, and protections for students with disabilities.
Education: Since 2012, Indiana has spent over $5.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on charter schools and the private school voucher program. If elected, would you support or oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to funding private schools and charter schools? Why or why not? (Source: ICPE)
I would oppose spending taxpayer dollars on private charter schools/private voucher programs.. Private schools were formed to be free from government control, and they are free from reporting requirements, etc. Therefore, they should not receive taxpayer dollars. They should continue to receive the private dollars that established them because they schools are taking away from public school teachers' pay and students' learning. 90% of Indiana's kids go to public schools, and this is where they money should go.
Democracy: In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge or threat facing our democracy right now? If elected, what will you do to help overcome this challenge or threat?
The erosion of checks and balance within all 3 levels of government, extreme ideological divides, and the Rolling Back of Voting Rights. I will hold all branches of government accountable and hold them to the rule of fair laws. I will champion legislation that establishes an independent, non-partisan redistricting commission and prioritizing transparency, re-affirming voter rights and fair representation, and rebuilding trust in government by giving everyone a voice/vote in their future/overall well-being.
Community: Describe your stance on ICE and its role in immigration enforcement and detention.
Community: What role or responsibility do local and state governments have with regards to immigration enforcement?
First, Every Human Being needs to be treated with dignity and respect, especially children, youth, seniors, the innocent, etc. regardless of status. As Senator, my duty is to ensure this basic right by upholding the US Constitution, and supporting bills that do the same. Noting, that Immigration is a Civil matter, and not in and of itself a criminal matter - unless a person has committed a criminal act. In short, I have a responsibility to uphold the Constitution to include due process and clear pathways to citizenship.
