We have a laundry list of ideas and policies to enact. To start we would lower the barrier for Hoosiers to join Medicaid, but we would use the state's power to negotiate/demand better deals from many of the large pharmaceutical companies that operate here already, demand hospitals to have clear and transparent rates for procedures, medications, and all other costs. We will remove barriers from insurance networks that stops people from seeing the physician or specialist they need to. We will provide a service that isn't just available to all Indiana residents, but is the better option.
Economics: AI and data centers are having a huge impact on jobs and communities across the nation, particularly in Indiana. What is Congress’s role in addressing this developing technology? What action will you take to hear and represent the concerns of Hoosiers on this topic?
Economics: Dozens of AI data centers are planning to come to Indiana, drawn by the state’s “business-friendly” reputation. How should Indiana manage these large industrial site proposals and their potential impact on communities? (Source: Citizens Action Coalition)
Due to the rapidly developing and volatile nature of the data center boom I would propose a 2 year moratorium on new data center sites until proper environmental and community impact studies can be conducted.
Education: Describe your stance on the Department of Education and its role in education administration, funding, and protections for students with disabilities.
Education: Since 2012, Indiana has spent over $5.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on charter schools and the private school voucher program. If elected, would you support or oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to funding private schools and charter schools? Why or why not? (Source: ICPE)
I would oppose taxpayer dollars to fund private school or charter schools. Public schools are meant to be the bedrock of our state's education, which powers the next generation of working class folk, and we know as working class people that private schools are designed to not be made available to everybody based upon the wealth some families have. If a private school wants to operate with selectivity and barriers based on income, then they do not deserve money from the hardworking taxpayer that is already struggling to feed their children, let alone get them to school.
Democracy: In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge or threat facing our democracy right now? If elected, what will you do to help overcome this challenge or threat?
The biggest threat facing democracy right now is partisan gerrymandering. Voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. That's why I would advocate for an independent districting commission that would counteract bad faith actors in our political system.
Community: Describe your stance on ICE and its role in immigration enforcement and detention.
Community: What role or responsibility do local and state governments have with regards to immigration enforcement?
local and state governments have a responsibility to keep their respective communities safe, however as we have seen federal law enforcement has been turned into the president's personal army and in the interest of keeping Hoosiers safe I would advocate that state and local law enforcement should retain its independence from the federal government. I would also repeal Senate Bill 76.
