WHY VOTE?
Elected officials set laws, budgets, and public policy. Their decisions impact all of us. For example:
-
School boards hire district superintendents, determining leadership and direction of our public schools.
-
Local offices, including city and county government, oversee local policies and services that impact our daily lives, including property taxes, local infrastructure, first responders, and local permits and regulations.
-
State lawmakers set the state budget, determining how state agencies and public schools are funded, in addition to setting the gas tax. They also set state laws.
-
Congresspeople create the federal budget, determining how federal agencies are funded, and play an important role in checks and balances on the office of the President.
TURNOUT
Indiana's election turnout consistently ranks at the bottom. To be fair, Indiana doesn't make it easy to understand and participate in the civic, legislative, or electoral process, but MADVoters seeks to fill that gap so that we can improve voter engagement
Ultimately, We the People must participate in our democracy so that we can improve it; we simply can't stand by and allow single party rule and special interests to dictate our lives. We're stronger together.
When only a fraction of eligible voters turn out, we're handing power over to a smaller group that doesn't truly represent us.
