My sole focus is getting us closer to a single-payer system that covers every American without co-pays, deductibles, or out-of-pocket expenses. Every other country in the world that has moved to this system has high life expectancy outcomes and lower maternal mortality rates. Not to mention it's the fiscally responsible thing to do. Study after study has shown it would save us money. We have to do this, we must do this. Americans have to stop worrying about how their healthcare will be cut every year, and whether their doctors will be covered in-network or out of network. Healthcare is a human right.
Economics: AI and data centers are having a huge impact on jobs and communities across the nation, particularly in Indiana. What is Congress’s role in addressing this developing technology? What action will you take to hear and represent the concerns of Hoosiers on this topic?
Economics: Dozens of AI data centers are planning to come to Indiana, drawn by the state’s “business-friendly” reputation. How should Indiana manage these large industrial site proposals and their potential impact on communities? (Source: Citizens Action Coalition)
Congress should put a moratorium on data centers until full and complete research and regulations can be put around their use, their true investments, and their resource load and environmental impacts on communities. Hoosiers across this state have overwhelmingly been against data centers while city and county governments have largely ignored them. At the federal level, I would join Sen. Sanders bill to stop all development until we know the full scale and scope of what is going on.
Education: Describe your stance on the Department of Education and its role in education administration, funding, and protections for students with disabilities.
Education: Since 2012, Indiana has spent over $5.5 billion in taxpayer dollars on charter schools and the private school voucher program. If elected, would you support or oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to funding private schools and charter schools? Why or why not? (Source: ICPE)
Public schools and public education are our most important investment to a secure and safe nation. That includes making sure that the funding model moves away from property taxes and which zip codes get the most funding is distributed equally to all schools across the country, equally, so that every child who is enrolled can achieve their goals. We have to strengthen the ADA to make sure that all of our families are protected and that every student feels safe and free to be included in every educational opportunity.
Democracy: In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge or threat facing our democracy right now? If elected, what will you do to help overcome this challenge or threat?
The erosion of safeguards to democracy is our biggest threat. We have an authoritarian regime in this administration that has given a boldness to state governments to follow its lead in the way they govern and has a ripple effect across communities. From the disregard for the way local governments hear citizens on data centers, to doing business with foreign governments as a state, to illegal wars and gutting the Voting Rights Act. We are in a war with the fragility of democracy itself.
Community: Describe your stance on ICE and its role in immigration enforcement and detention.
Community: What role or responsibility do local and state governments have with regards to immigration enforcement?
ICE should be defunded, investigated, and those guilty should be prosecuted. ICE was an overreaction to 9/11. We already have border enforcement agencies responsible for immigration enforcement. Every single inhumane detention center needs to be torn down. We need true immigration reform, not lip service for the most rabid social media influencers.
